constellations & the solar system
Students learn the sun, Earth, moon relationships through demonstrations and active modeling. They will see a scaled model of the solar system to be better able to conceptualize the relative sizes of the sun and planets. By simulation, the students learn the phases of the moon and the cause of the phases. Students will learn about some of the more easily indentified constellations and the myths and lore attached to them. The lesson culminates in making a "star viewer."
