the salamander room

This lesson is a good introduction to habitats. Students see and touch a salamander, hear the story The Salamander Room and discuss it. Students will learn the components of a habitat and play the “Habitat Game.” They will see and touch various native animals and discuss their habitat needs and their role in an ecosystem. Students in groups will open up an owl pellet and see the bones of animals to learn one way scientists can determine what animals live in an ecosystem.
